Troy Mitteness received life in prison without parole for the 2022 murder of his mother, Sandra Mitteness, after a jury found him guilty of premeditated first-degree murder.
Troy Michael Mitteness, 58, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal murder and dismemberment of his 82-year-old mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness. The sentence, handed down by the Honorable Richelle M. Wahi on Tuesday, August 19, follows a jury’s guilty verdict on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder.
The conviction comes after a seven-day trial where jurors deliberated for approximately nine hours before reaching their verdict. According to the criminal complaint, Mitteness confessed to detectives from the Burnsville Police Department that he stabbed his mother to death at his Burnsville home in June 2022.
