50,000 attend 40th Farm Aid in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – An estimated 50,000 attended Farm Aid 40 at the University of Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium Saturday.

Among those attending were farmers. 36-year-old Matt Kruger grows corn, oats, sunflowers, and has 35 feeder cattle near Pine Island in southeastern Minnesota. He says markets are really poor in the farm economy and there’s a high risk of bankruptcy and many farmers face some serious financial difficulties. Kruger says he doesn’t know exactly how the money raised from the event is distributed to farmers, but Farm Aid is great for highlighting what’s happening in rural America.

Performers included Farm Aid founders Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Others taking the stage during the all-day event included Margo Price, Billy Strong, Nathan Rateliff and Trampled by Turtles…
