Nearly 1,000 Minnesota drivers ticketed in week-long seatbelt sting

ST PAUL, Minn. — Your mom told you. Law enforcement told you. But some drivers still roll down the road without a seatbelt.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) revealed Tuesday that a week-long extra enforcement campaign (Sept. 21-27) resulted in nearly 1,000 tickets written for not wearing a seatbelt or failing to properly secure a child. The state patrol and more than 250 law enforcement agencies took part, with funding for overtime enforcement provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These citations serve as a powerful reminder for every driver and parent to pause and make a life-saving choice,” said Office of Traffic Safety Director Mike Hanson. “The data is clear—seat belts and proper child restraints save lives.”…
