Police continue to seek leads in 1990 St. Paul homicide

ST PAUL, Minn. — Thirty-five years ago, Robert Spann was found stabbed to death in his basement. To this day, no one has been held responsible for his death.

The 27-year-old lived in the Summit-University neighborhood of St. Paul with his girlfriend on Nov. 6, 1990. He was a law student at the time.

A safe was taken from the house, leading robbery to be seen as a possible motive. However, a 1991 Star Tribune article reports there weren’t signs of forced entry into his home and the safe was said to have only contained diplomas…
