A resident of a 34-unit building in south Minneapolis, located near the YMCA, has raised concerns over the security of the building. Over the past three years, the building has seen a decline in safety, with non-renters frequently gaining access to the premises. The intruders have been found in the breaker room, the boiler room, and even sleeping in the laundry room. Despite the landlord’s efforts to secure these areas with locks, the issue persists. The situation escalated recently when intruders used the breaker room to get high, triggering the fire alarms. This incident follows a similar one from last year when someone broke into the building and discharged a fire extinguisher, causing the alarms to go off for three consecutive days. The resident suspects that other tenants may be letting non-tenants into the building or giving them spare keys.
