Two Teens Met in the Hospital While Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries. Years Later, They’re Getting Married

After meeting as teens, two survivors of traumatic brain injuries are getting married.

In 2018, Zach Zarembinski, then 18, and Isabelle Richard, then 16, both ended up at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minn., after suffering devastating accidents. Zarembinski had been injured on the football field on Oct. 27, and Richard had been in a car crash en route to her grocery store job on Nov. 5.

Both had traumatic brain injuries — and both had been placed in medically induced comas. Their mothers, who became friends at the hospital, were told their children might not survive.

“I remember Isabelle was laying there. She had shards of glass still in her hair. And she was unconscious,” Richard’s mother, Esther Wilzbacher, recalled to KARE 11 in an emotional interview…
