Violence strikes Minneapolis homeless encampments on Lake Street

On the evening of September 15, 2025, thirteen people were wounded during two massive shootings at Minneapolis homeless encampments, with four being critically wounded. In one of these shootings, the encampment was set on private land near E. Lake Street and 28th Avenue S, taking place around 10 pm. The owner of the land, Hamoudi Sabri, has declined on various occasions to clear the area and is now facing $20,000 in fines for allowing homeless people to live without setting any type of precautions, putting residents, neighbors, and surrounding businesses at risk.

Sabri said in an interview with CBS, “What am I doing? I’m just helping homeless and I’m helping the city to get stability and safety. That’s all I’m about.”

If this act of kindness wasn’t causing negative impacts and instead making progress in our community, many would see it as something good because, above the many crimes and challenges Minneapolis has been facing throughout the years, there are still people out there who are willing to get involved and create a change in our community. Sabri has good intentions by getting involved in this issue, and it is important to have an open mind when it comes to handling situations like this because it is true that a great number of people use this opportunity to take shelter. However, there are other people who take advantage of the situation and come to this campsite to sell drugs, which obviously attracts more people to this place to buy drugs…
