Minneapolis bakery confirms its final day of service

Last summer, Sun Street Breads in Minneapolis’ Kingfield neighborhood announced that it would close at the end of its current lease.

Now, the 15-year-old bakery and neighborhood hub at 4600 Nicollet Ave. has given a date for its final service. It will close on March 22, according to staff and a sign in the dining room that thanks customers for “15 fantastic years.”

In July, co-owners Solveig Tofte and Martin Ouimet announced that they decided not to sign a new five-year lease, telling Mpls.St. Paul Magazine that the business model wasn’t working any longer.

They did not feel the bakery could raise prices at the same pace as their costs, with food, repairs, and utilities all on the rise…
