EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — An Eden Prairie woman known for her passion for fitness and racing is facing a life-altering recovery after a devastating crash during a triathlon in Florida.
Ashleigh Whitton, an avid athlete who her friend Jen Greene says “found joy in movement,” was competing in a race this past Sunday when the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says a 74-year-old driver turned onto a closed section of the course during the race, colliding with Ashleigh and another racer who were on the bike portion of the race. The other racer suffered minor injuries and Ashleigh was airlifted to the hospital.
“She did have a severe spinal cord injury, probably the worst that you can have, that’s what the doctor said,” said Greene. “She is still not moving any of her extremities, and it’s been longer than 72 hours. And that’s typically the time that they try to see if there’s any movement.”…
