Hillsborough County To Conduct Aerial Mosquito Spraying In South Tampa

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services will conduct an aerial treatment to control adult mosquito populations in South Tampa during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 16.

The treatment comes after county monitoring systems detected a sharp rise in mosquito numbers following an increase in local rainfall. According to county officials, a single monitoring trap in South Tampa collected 18,000 mosquitoes on Tuesday.

The aerial application of Dibrom is scheduled to take place between 3:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Thursday. The target area in South Tampa is defined by the following boundaries:

  • South Boundary: Tampa Bay
  • East Boundary: Bayshore Boulevard
  • West Boundary: AJ Palonis Park

A single-engine helicopter will fly the mission at an altitude of 300 feet, applying the treatment at a rate of 0.66 ounces per acre. If weather or other factors prevent the flight on Thursday, the county has scheduled Friday, July 17, as the first alternate date, and Saturday, July 18, as the second alternate date…
