Bandleader Guy Lombardo was famous for his sentimental rendition of “Auld Lang Syne,” which he and his Royal Canadians performed every New Year’s Eve, somewhere in America, for close to half a century.
Their 1947 recording is still played every midnight, Jan. 1 in New York’s Times Square, as the big ball drops.
Variety magazine said Lombardo was “the only Canadian ever to create an American tradition.”…
