Tampa Middle School Teacher Jailed Over Texts Sent to Former Student Since 2023

A 31-year-old Hillsborough County middle school teacher is behind bars after deputies say he admitted to sending inappropriate and sexually explicit material to a former teenage student he first taught years earlier. Christian Schneider, who most recently worked at Memorial Middle School in Tampa’s Seminole Heights neighborhood, was arrested following a criminal investigation the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office opened on July 28.

According to the Tampa Free Press, investigators say Schneider sent the inappropriate communications to a teenager he had previously taught at Franklin Middle School. During questioning by detectives, Schneider admitted that the contact with the former student began in 2023, while he was teaching at Franklin Middle Magnet School, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay. He later transferred to Memorial Middle School, where he was still employed at the time of his arrest.

Schneider now faces two counts of solicitation or possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, per the Tampa Free Press report. The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active and that updates will be released as they become available.

Sheriff Warns of Broken Trust

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister addressed the arrest directly, saying teachers hold a position of trust that comes with enormous responsibility.
