The backstory:
Last week, 21 dachshunds were surrendered to Pinellas County Animal Services by two owners residing in Pasco County. The dogs were later transferred to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB).
HSTB staff said Friday that the dogs were being treated for ear, teeth, and skin issues. In an update on Monday, staff told FOX 13 that vets recently discovered some are now suffering from knee problems.
One of the two pregnant dogs gave birth to six puppies over the weekend, staff said. It will be several weeks until any of these dachshunds — adults or puppies — will be ready for adoption, HSTB added on Monday.
