That driver hit a 23-year-old Winter Springs man in a Hyundai Sonata, who was able to make a controlled stop.
However, the man in the Kia drove off the roadway and into the shoulder, striking an electrical box.
FHP said his vehicle then went airborne, struck a concrete traffic management equipment pole eight feet up from its base, breaking the pole, and then landed in a water-filled culvert.
The driver was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
The other driver had minor injuries.
