Benderson Development starts the new year with $30.5 million purchase in Sarasota

Benderson Development has started the year with a $30.5 million purchase of a large shopping center on Tamiami Trail just south of Bee Ridge Road.

The center is 97% leased, with Best Buy and Barnes & Noble the largest tenants in the 95,500 square feet of retail space.

Benderson Development has been purchasing property in the general area around the Glengary Shoppes retail center. The national real estate company is headquartered at University Park near Lakewood Ranch in Manatee County.

Other notable properties the company owns in the area include Siesta Promenade at Stickney Point and Tamiami Trail, The Landings near Tamiami Trail and Proctor Road, Café Baci and the Crossings at Siesta Key, formerly known as Westfield Siesta Key.

A news release on the sale noted that Benderson has purchased property around the country over the past couple of years totaling “over $2 billion and more than 10 million square feet.”

Brad Peterson and Whitaker Leonhardt of Colliers managed the multimillion dollar transaction for Glengary Shoppes. The transaction closed on Jan. 5, according to property records.
