Bridget Ziegler has made our schools a national ‘punch line.’ She must go.

Ziegler harming students, community

As a parent of daughters educated here in Sarasota, I want to express my concern that Bridget Ziegler’s determination to remain on the Sarasota County School Board is negatively impacting our students and community.

Ziegler’s priorities are at odds with maintaining a safe environment for equitable learning. Her personal proclivities have been magnified by the sheer fact that she has made it her mission to create a hostile environment in our schools for students of color and the LGBTQ+ community.

Her part in creating the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, co-founding Moms for Liberty, supporting book bans and school privatization, and holding a position with The Leadership Institute, a conservative nonprofit, have amplified the scandal, making our schools a national punch line.

The community and her colleagues have told her that they no longer support her in this leadership position. Her desire to hold onto this position is a misguided attempt at political prowess.

As Pine View alumnus Zander Moricz told Ziegler at a board meeting, “You deserve to be fired from your job because you are terrible at your job.”
