Florida Man accused of stealing $271,000 in benefits after pretending to be disabled for 20 Years

Federal prosecutors claim that a man received thousands of dollars in disability benefits for 20 years without disclosing that he possessed five Florida real estate broker licenses and earned money by fixing and reselling residences.

According to court filings Allen R. Jenkins, 68 who is a former railroad worker, said he couldn’t work since 1995 owing to a physical impairment , so the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board began paying him. The Sarasota resident worked “in multiple capacities” after being eligible for a “total and permanent disability annuity” in December 1995, according to the prosecution.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida claims that over a period of several years, he stole $271,124 in disability benefits that he was not entitled to .

The office said in a news release that Jenkins has now entered a guilty plea to theft of government funds in a federal court located in Tampa.
