Detectives traced the gun back to Michael Difabio, 58, who was a custodian at the school, according to the sheriff’s office. Difabio resigned at the time of his arrest.

“There is no place for weapons on school grounds,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Schools should be sanctuaries where students and staff should feel safe and secure. The first day of school is just around the corner, and our message is loud and clear, we will not tolerate weapons on campus for any reason.”

Difabio was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, deputies said.

Difabio had worked at the school since 2023.
