19-year-old gorilla at Busch Gardens dies

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A fan-favorite gorilla at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has sadly passed away, the theme park announced Monday.

Busch Gardens announced the passing of Tinga, a 19-year-old female western lowland gorilla, noting her health “rapidly declined” following an illness.

“Tinga was a guest favorite, showing off her climbing skills and playfulness with the other members of the troop,” the park wrote on Facebook. “While our hearts are broken by the loss of Tinga, the well-being of the rest of the troop is now our primary focus.”

Busch Gardens said its animal care staff is monitoring the troop while it adjusts to Tinga’s passing.
