CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A rescued dog with a seven-pound tumor received his much-needed treatment at the Humane Society of Pinellas.

King, the 5-year-old pup, escaped a life of neglect and arrived at the Clearwater animal shelter several weeks ago.

The dog has an ulcerated mass on the side of his face, weighing seven pounds, which was 10% of his body weight.

Despite dealing with the uncomfortable and painful tumor, the shelter said King’s spirit was inspiring, upbeat, and unbroken.

After undergoing surgery to remove the mass, the tumor was found to be benign. However, King is now undergoing treatment for heartworm disease.

“King’s journey to us has been nothing short of heroic,” the animal shelter said.

As soon as the pup finishes treatment and is on the road to recovery, the Humane Society of Pinellas said he would be up for adoption.
