Heavy rain floods streets and cars in St. Petersburg

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Strong storms brought torrential downpours through Hillsborough and Pinellas counties Wednesday evening.

The rain caused flooding in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Pictures during the storms show waterlogged streets.

Families in Shore Acres are never surprised by flooding. Homeowner Gregg Stepp previously said, “When it rains heavy, everything through here is a complete lake. We can sit in our living room and watch it come up to the house and flood our garage, that’s just during a heavy rain.”

Water inundated cars on 30th Avenue at 38th Street North. In the Tyrone area vehicle pushed through flooding.

Neighbors in Shore Acres were once again frustrated by standing water. They’re hoping a multimillion-dollar project to replace aging infrastructure helps improve the problem.

Thursday morning, streets remained wet but flooding subsided. Self-serve sandbag location are open all year in Pinellas County.
