Bill Nye ‘Science Guy’ to speak at event

SARASOTA — The idea that the world can be improved through science has become a growing question in society.

New College of Florida wants to explore that possibility through the lens of the everyday man with the help of two expert guest speakers to kick off its first “Socratic Stage Dialogue Series” event.

An environmental forum on how people can “save the world” through science will be hosted by Bill Nye and Michael Shellenberger on Sept. 14 at the Sarasota Opera House.

The discussion and audience Q&A will be moderated by NCF Board trustee Mark Bauerlein.

While known most commonly for being the creator and host of 1990s STEM show “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” Nye also has a background in engineering and scientific advocacy.

Nye’s show became the most-watched educational television show in the country at the time and earned 18 Emmy awards, according to a news release.

Shellenberger is an investigative journalist and the bestselling author of “San Fransicko: Why Progressives Ruin Cities” and “Apocalypse Never: Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All.”
