TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance located off the Southeastern U.S. Coast , as it ramps up to a 50% chance for development.
Sunday morning, the system jumped from a 40% to a 50% chance for development over the next two days, since Saturday.
The NHC said the non-tropical low-pressure area is a couple hundred miles off the coast, as it looks to continue its track northwestward toward the Carolinas.
It is likely to become a subtropical or tropical storm early this week, if the storm becomes “sufficiently organized,” according to the NHC.
The Southeastern coast should expect gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding this week, regardless if the system strengthens into a tropical storm.
