TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman has been arrested for allegedly robbing a Grow Financial on Tuesday, the Tampa Police Department said.

Around 2:30 p.m., Maria Montesino, 42, entered Grow Financial Federal Credit Union located on the 1700 block of North Oregon Avenue and demanded money from the teller, according to TPD.

Montesino stated a man was outside instructing her to commit the robbery, and he was in possession of a bomb that would go off if the teller did not give her money.

The teller did give Montesino money before she fled the scene.

According to TPD, detectives gathered evidence and quickly located Montesino at a nearby apartment complex where she was arrested.

Monestino has been charged with:

  • Robbery $750 or more but less than $250,000
  • False report bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction; threatening to discharge destructive device

No evidence was found that supported her allegation of a man being involved or armed with an explosive device, TPD said.
