St. Pete residents anxiously wait for power to be restored

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Power outages are a major concern for people across the Tampa Bay area.

Florida Power and Light said 90% of its customers should have power restored by Monday night.

Duke Energy representatives said the task ahead of them in Pinellas County is a big one. Lineman were seen in the area Friday, though many people asked why they had not seen lineman in their neighborhoods yet.

Duke Energy shares when power is expected to be restored

Duke Energy said even though you may not see them in your neighborhood, they are still working to restore power, and patience is appreciated. A spokesperson for the company said there is major infrastructure damage in Pinellas County.

Crews near Shorecrest Preparatory School were assessing damage to 16 poles destroyed in the hurricane. They said the damage at this location impacts thousands of customers. In a release from Friday afternoon, the company said power could be restored by Oct. 15.

“That’s scary because we’re going to have to come up with food, all the resources and stuff and try to keep the kids occupied, they probably won’t be able to go to school,” Courtnay Jones said.
