St. Pete kicks off Halloween festivities

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of St. Petersburg kicked off Halloween festivities a few days early with the 4th annual ‘Halloween on Central’ event.

Central Avenue was shut down to traffic and transformed into ‘the ultimate Halloween block party’ on Sunday.

“I want my daughter to still feel the joy of Halloween and how fun it is,” said Amanda Renz, a Clearwater resident.  “We’ve done this every year.”

The crowds were a welcome change for many of the businesses that are still recovering from the recent hurricanes.

“I had to pause operations for three weeks,” said Raymond Darden, owner of Ubuntu Food Truck.  “One of our locations in Dunedin was obliterated.  We had to shut down operations because we had no power and lost a lot of food, so it’s good to get a nice little income boost.”

According to organizers, more than 100,000 people attend the event every year.
