Clearwater man killed after driving off highway, crashing into pizza place

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. (WFLA) — A Clearwater man was killed Wednesday morning after officials said he crashed into a power pole and then a pizza place.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near Northeast 2nd Avenue and U.S. Highway 19 in Crystal River, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 48-year-old driver was heading south on the highway in a Ford F150 when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the truck.

The Ford continued traveling across the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 before striking a power pole, authorities reported. The truck came to a stop after crashing into Marco’s Pizza.

Troopers said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information was immediately available.
