How heated would an argument have to be for someone to resort to repeatedly stabbing someone else? The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reports that they received several calls around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday morning about a stabbing at Carrollwood Apartments in Tampa that occurred over a disagreement.
Once on scene, deputies found 19-year-old Arnold Gutierrez suffering from multiple stab wounds. Gutierrez was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he passed away from his wounds.
As of 8:30 a.m., the HCSO updated that during the investigation, police discovered that 24-year-old Michael Aldana had been seen engaged in a verbal altercation with Gutierrez, which became physical and led to the stabbing. It is currently unclear what the suspect and victim were fighting about.
At that time, although Aldana had not been caught yet, the sheriff believed that this stabbing was an isolated incident. He assured that the general public was likely not in any danger.
By 5:40 p.m. the same day, deputies were able to arrest Aldana on a single charge of first degree murder with a weapon. Aldana was taken to Orient Road Jail, where he is currently being held with no bond set. The investigation is ongoing.
Regarding the incident, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commented, “What began as a verbal argument has sadly turned into a tragedy…Our hearts go out to the family of the young man whose life was ended in this senseless act of violence”.
