Largo father of 4, Solid Waste driver, seeks living kidney donor

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — A Largo Public Works team member and father of four, Leron Roberts, is searching for a living kidney donor.

The 45-year-old was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2019 after doctors discovered during regular lab testing that his kidneys were failing.

In 2023, Roberts was told to go to the hospital, where he was put on dialysis. Within the past year, he got on the list to receive a kidney transplant.

Now, all he needs is a donor.

“Having a kidney would mean having a better life,” Roberts said. “So I can do more things with my kids, so I don’t have to do nine hours a night on dialysis.”

Despite being on dialysis every day for nine hours, the City of Largo said Roberts continues to serve the community as a Solid Waste driver and Claw Truck Operator. This includes collecting storm debris from hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Last year, Largo Public Library Director Casey McPhee received a living donor kidney, a woman who had been battling kidney disease, the City of Largo said.
