Portable power stations recalled after Bradenton man’s death

BRADENTON, Fla. ( WJW ) — Thousands of portable power stations are being recalled after a man’s death.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of around 5,700 HALO 1000 Portable Power Stations over concerns that the lithium-ion batteries in the units can overheat, potentially causing fires.

The recall follows a fatal incident in June 2022, when a 79-year-old man in Bradenton died from smoke inhalation after a fire related to the power station.

The recall affects products sold by ZAGG Inc. of Midvale, Utah; Alliance Consumer Group (ACG) of Roanoke, Texas; and QVC Inc. of West Chester, Pennsylvania. The recalled power stations were sold between October 2021 and March 2022 for prices ranging from $1,000 to $1,300.

In addition to the fatality, the companies have received four other reports of fires involving the power stations, including two cases of smoke inhalation, one of which also involved burn injuries.
