Teen arrested at Florida middle school with weapons in backpack

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — A 13-year-old boy was arrested at Azalea Middle School after police discovered a gun and a kitchen knife in his backpack. The student did not make any threats to the school or other students, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The boy, an eighth-grader, faces two counts of possession of a weapon on school property. The St. Petersburg Police Department emphasized that student safety is a top priority and that any weapon or threat on campus will be thoroughly investigated. “This serves as a reminder to students that the police department takes these matters very seriously and the consequences could be severe,” stated the department.
