ER doctors see increase in severity of e-bike injuries

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Electric bikes and scooters can be fun to ride around the city, or even a fun gift for a kid or spouse.

But over the past two years, emergency rooms like the one at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital have witnessed a big spike in e-bike and e-scooter injuries. The injuries are not just bumps and bruises. Emergency room doctors there say they have treated paralysis, brain bleeds and even had patients die.
