Bay area brother donates bone marrow for treatment that cured sister’s sickle cell disease

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — June 19 is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. It’s a time for people to shine a light on the disease and get educated about the need for a universal cure.

Right now, there are two types of treatments that cure sickle cell disease, but there are still more than 100,000 people living with it in the United States.
