SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Twin waterspouts were spotted spinning side by side over the Gulf just off the Bradenton coast Sunday evening in the 5 p.m. hour, a striking and rare sight.
While waterspouts are not uncommon in Florida, seeing two at once is something that seems to only happen every few years or so.
These spouts form when warm, humid air rises quickly from the ocean surface and meets just the right twist in the atmosphere, often near a weak thunderstorm or towering cumulus cloud. When conditions align, the result is a dramatic, rope-like column of rotating air stretching from the cloud base down to the water. or in this case, two of them dancing together…
