In disappointing news for lovers of British grub and pub life, The Studio Public House tells I Love the Burg that it will be closing later this summer after the property owner decided to sell its building at 2950 Central Avenue.
Studio Pub’s original lease was set to expire this fall, with an option to extend it another five years. The beloved local restaurant agreed to the five-year lease extension earlier this year. However, after the landlord announced he was selling the property, the new lease was terminated, leaving the British foodie and football outpost without a home. The restaurant is operating as usual for now, with no official closing date yet determined.
Owner and Chef Mike Crippin, who opened Studio Pub with his wife Alison five years ago, says he hopes to find a new location for Studio Pub in town, but acknowledges that, at the very least, there will be a long gap in service after they close in Grand Central. Following closure, Crippin is focused on securing a location to re-open longtime downtown British favorite Moon Under Water, for which he was previously the Executive Chef. After purchasing the rights to Moon Under Water earlier this year, he and his partners announced the upcoming return of the star restaurant and bar. Crippin said he plans to bring his Studio Pub staff with him to the new venture when it opens…
