TREASURE ISLAND — City commissioners have agreed to build a firehouse north of City Hall that could eventually expand into a full public safety building, scaling back from an earlier $12 million proposal that would have housed both police and fire departments.
The compromise plan calls for constructing an 8,010-square-foot fire station on 105th Avenue near City Hall Center, designed with foundations and structural support that could accommodate a second story for police in the future. The police department would relocate to a retrofitted fourth floor of City Hall.
