ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – On Thursday, July 17, the U.S. Coast Guard announced thousands of pounds of drugs worth over $93 million were seized and offloaded in St. Petersburg.
“Yet again, the crew impressed me with their ability to achieve significant operational success and protect American interests while fighting every day to maintain a nearly 60-year-old ship in a challenging maritime environment,” said Cmdr. Ian Starr, Resolute’s commanding officer.
While on a 59-day patrol in the eastern Pacific, the ship’s seized almost 12,600 pounds of cocaine estimated to be worth around $93.2 million, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Resolute’s deployment was part of the Joint Interagency Task Force-South (JIATF-South) to detect, deter, and intercept smuggling of drugs into the U.S. and was assisted by other vessels, including Escanaba, Tahoma and Hamilton…
