Urban farming is taking root in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A way to stay fit while benefitting the community and environment is growing in popularity across St. Petersburg and around Pinellas County: urban farming.

Urban farming encompasses everything from herb gardens on condo balconies to backyard plots, community gardens and full-scale urban farms, said Emmanuel Roux, owner of 15th Street Farm.

“It is anything that produces food within an urban environment,” Roux said. “Oftentimes at the farm, we draw analogies between healthy human systems mirroring healthy systems in nature.”…
