Villager in golf cart arrested on DUI charge after drinking at Ednas’

A Villager who went off course in a golf cart was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after drinking at Ednas’ on the Green.

Irvin Blair Cox, 74, who lives in the Newport Villas in the Village of Largo, was driving a red golf cart shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday when he was spotted at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Huey Street, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop because the golf cart was traveling on a prohibited roadway. Cox pulled the golf cart into the Save-A-Lot shopping center parking lot. When the officer approached the golf cart, he immediately began to suspect that Cox had been drinking.

The officer saw that both of Cox’s knees had “multiple bloody scratches.” The officer asked Cox about how the injury occurred…
