Group collects unclaimed airport luggage for Bay area foster kids

TAMPA, Fla. — Duffels of Dignity, part of Hillsborough County Child Services, is celebrating a big donation of suitcases and backpacks from Tampa International Airport.

The airport recently donated 119 bags to the nonprofit. This makes sure Hillsborough County’s 1,400 foster care children have bags to carry their items in.

“When a child is removed from home and they are entering foster care, they leave with their world in a trash bag. That’s the first experience that they have,” said Craig Jewesak with Duffels for Dignity. “So, what we are trying to do with Duffels of Dignity is change that narrative. We want them to be able to start this new chapter in their lives with a little bit of dignity and something they can carry their own items in.”…
