Local law enforcement honored for service, saving lives at annual gala

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Area Chiefs of Police Foundation held its 10th annual gala in Clearwater on Saturday night to honor law enforcement members, including a deputy who saved a woman held at knifepoint and officers who lifted a car after a man was pinned underneath.

“We want to make every officer feel that they are well deserving of their position, their authority and their stature in the community,” said Gregory Mertz, the foundation’s president.
