Villagers’ son to escape prosecution in violent tirade over employment

A 29-year-old is poised to escape prosecution after attacking his parents when they confronted him about employment and financial issues.

Jacob Wassey of St. Petersburg, has been allowed to enter into a pre-trial intervention contract which would allow him to avoid prosecution on two counts of battery, according to a document on file in Sumter County Court. The contract requires Wassey to complete a batterer’s intervention program and to have only “peaceful contact” with his parents.

The native New Yorker became enraged and sipped three-quarters of a bottle of vodka on March 25 at his parents’ home in the Village of Marsh Bend. As he seethed, he head-butted a wall in the living room, leaving a sizable hole. He also punched a hole in a bedroom wall, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

His mother dumped out the remaining vodka. In his violent tirade, Wassey slapped his mother on her upper left arm, leaving the imprint of his hand…
