Grocery co-op pushes for new store in South St. Pete to fill gap left by Save-A-Lot closing

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A local grocery co-op is pushing for a new store to open in South St. Pete after the area’s only accessible grocery store, a Save-A-Lot, closed.

The One Community Grocery Co-op wants to create a member-owned store in South St. Pete to bring affordable, fresh food to residents. At a news conference Thursday morning, organizers said they need a total of 300 members to move forward with development. Currently, they have about 150.

“It gives us community buy-in, and it also enables us to have a solid financial base because members are adding money to the base that we can use for grants and funds,” board president Erica Hardison said…
