The death of Jane Goodall made for a somber, teary day on Eckerd’s campus, with many students recalling when they got to hear her speak in St. Petersburg just over a year ago.
Goodall died in her sleep on Oct. 1 in Los Angeles, and many students turned to social media to share her messages of hope, which she shared with Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field on Sept. 14, 2024. It was one of the last events at Tropicana before Hurricane Milton ripped off much of the roof.
Goodall’s Roots & Shoots organization hosted “Hope in Action” at Tropicana Field as a part of Goodall’s 90th birthday tour. She was on a speaking tour when she died. Eckerd’s Campus Activities office gave out over 200 tickets to students and provided shuttles back and forth to the event…
