HCSO: Captain resigns, 2 colonels amid academic cheating investigation

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – 8 On Your Side told you last week that two top officials left the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Now, two more are facing internal investigations.

Some of the internal turbulence is connected to allegations of academic cheating and the hiring of a man named Robert Roush.

It came after Former Chief Deputy Anthony Collins resigned four months into his historic promotion.“He paid somebody to do his coursework at the prestigious FBI National Academy,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

Collins resigned in July after his wife reported him for “academic dishonesty” and shared emails, which 8 on your side obtained. The emails show Collins corresponded with Roush to complete his coursework at the FBI National Academy.

One email from Roush to Collins reads: “All work in class should be done. Do we have anything else due that I may have missed?” In another email, Roush writes: “Here is our paper. It meets the guidelines and requirements without focusing too much on the personal.”“[Collins] did apologize he said he would never do anything out of his love for me out of his respect for me to dishonor his position at the office,” Chronister said.Now, 8 On Your Side is learning that Roush allegedly had contact with three other sheriff’s office officials: Colonels Michael Hannaford, Chris Rule, and former Captain Lora Rivera…
