Doctors warn TikTok trends sending Tampa Bay teens to the ER

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Emergency room doctors said viral TikTok challenges are sending more teens to the hospital, sometimes with injuries that could last a lifetime.

“So, we’re talking about months, two years to a lifetime of dealing with consequences of an action made from a TikTok challenge,” said Dr. Alexandra Farish with Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH/USF Health.

Earlier this week, St. Petersburg Fire officials said a teen was hospitalized after trying to make a jam jar jet engine, a homemade propulsion device seen in viral TikTok videos that involves lighting alcohol inside a glass jar.
