St. Pete police warn against viral AI ‘homeless man’ prank after woman files false report

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg police are warning the public about a dangerous social media trend involving AI-generated photos after officers said a woman falsely reported a man broke into her home and assaulted her.

Investigators said Brooke Schinault, 32, called police claiming a man forced his way into her home and refused to leave. The woman also reportedly told her husband about the incident.

“Initially, a woman called and said that somebody had pushed their way inside her home and was in her home, and she didn’t want them there,” said Yolanda Fernandez, spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department.
