St. Petersburg residents allowed to stay in apartment units after failed fire inspections, new order says

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Some residents at a St. Petersburg apartment complex who thought they had just days to move out are now being told they can stay — at least for now — according to the latest cease and desist order issued by the Florida State Fire Marshal.

Per the order, non-working fire alarm systems were in five of the Morgan Apartment complex buildings located along 54th Avenue South.

The complex had failed to maintain working fire alarms since July, the order said.

Management was ordered to make repairs and hire a fire watch company — which they did — but they reportedly failed to pay that company several times which prompted the fire marshal to order 14 units vacated…
