Traffic stop in St. Pete leads to resisting arrest charge, highlights 25-foot ‘Halo’ law

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — An investigation is underway in St. Peterburg. A woman said a traffic stop led to her uncle being taken down to the ground by police and then put in handcuffs, but he wasn’t in the car. She is calling for an investigation into the officer’s behavior.

Video shared with 8 On Your Side shows an officer making an arrest. The officer is heard saying “stop tensing up or you’re going to go on the ground.” A few seconds go by, then the officer forces the man to the ground.

Before the officer could even file the use of force report, the video had already made it to Police Chief Anthony Holloway. The chief confirmed that the case will be reviewed by the Office of Professional Standards.
