On December 11, 2025, the St. Petersburg City Council approved an additional $1 million for the Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project. The funding is provided through a grant agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to support flood relief in Shore Acres, a neighborhood at risk of flooding.
Mayor Kenneth T. Welch stated that investments in flood mitigation are important as the city faces more frequent and severe weather events. He said the project aims to provide immediate relief to residents and maintain stormwater operations during power outages. Welch also acknowledged the involvement of Senator Nick DiCeglie, Representative Lindsay Cross, and city staff in securing the funding.
The Shore Acres Flood Mitigation Project includes new stormwater infrastructure.
